The import of undegradable plastic single use straws and stirrers will be completely banned from January 1, 2022, according to an order by Chief Executive Ho Iat Seng published in the Official Gazette (BO) yesterday.
The Environmental Protection Bureau (DSPA) said in a follow-up statement that in order to gradually launch a reduced plastic use scheme, the government decided to ban all imports of not biodegradable plastic straws and stirrers after the government’s ban on Styrofoam, which took effect in January this year.
