A drunk woman was arrested on Saturday in Estrada de Adolfo Loureiro for disobeying a police order as she refused to take the breathalyser test that night, Public Security Police (PSP) spokesman Lam Keong said at a press conference yesterday.
The 49-year-old local suspect surnamed Fong told the police that she is a businesswoman.
According to Lam, a resident reported to the Public Security Police on Saturday at about 11 p.m. that a car was not parked properly at the passenger pick-up and drop-off point in Estrada de Adolfo Loureiro thus blocking the road.
PSP officers arrived at the scene and discovered a woman sleeping in the driver seat. The officers confirmed that the car was blocking the road and when they told the woman to park the car in the right position, they could smell that she reeked of alcohol. The officers told the woman to take a breathalyser test but she refused and yelled at them, shouting that she was not driving at that time. The officers repeatedly asked Fong to take the test but she stubbornly refused.
Lam said Fong told the police that she had been drinking during her meal in Rua de Francisco Xavier Pereira earlier that night and drove home afterwards. When she drove past Estrada de Adolfo Loureiro she remembered that she had been drinking and stopped there to take a rest. Fong was later diagnosed with acute alcohol intoxication by a doctor, Lam said.
The case has been transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office (MP). Fong faces a charge of disobeying a police order, according to Lam.
