A 60-year-old local man was arrested on Wednesday for sexually abusing his stepdaughter after she had taken sleep medication earlier that day, Judiciary Police (PJ) Chan Wun Man said at a special press conference yesterday.
The suspect surnamed Vong owns a food shop in the northern district. His wife is in her forties. After the couple got married, his wife and her daughter obtained their Macau ID cards in 2018. Both live with Vong in a flat in the northern district.
According to Chan, the Public Security Police (PSP) notified the Judiciary Police early Wednesday about a suspected sexual abuse case. PJ officers discovered that the victim is the stepdaughter of the suspect. The victim’s mother works in the shop every day from afternoon until early morning. Chan said that due to health problems, the victim had to take medication prescribed by her doctor to help her sleep, and Vong used the opportunity to sexually abuse his stepdaughter.
Chan said that the victim’s mother felt that her daughter’s behaviour was abnormal about a week ago and asked her about it. The victim told her mother that while she was sleeping she felt that the suspect had touched her private parts.
However, Vong denied the abuse when the victim’s mother asked him about it. The victim’s mother then secretly installed a surveillance camera in the victim’s bedroom, attempting to protect her daughter. Early Wednesday morning, the victim’s mother checked the live footage while she was working in the store. Much to her horror she discovered that her husband was sexually abusing her daughter who was sleeping so she hurried back home.
When she entered the flat, Vong panicked and leapt from the victim’s bed. When his wife called the police to report the case, he tried to stop her. He snatched the surveillance camera and hurled it out of the window in an attempt to destroy the evidence.
According to Chan, the police went to their home and arrested him. Vong refused to cooperate with the police. PJ officers did a detailed search of the neighbourhood where the suspect lives and found the surveillance camera, including the incriminating footage, which confirmed that Vong repeatedly sexually abused his stepdaughter after she took the medicine.
Chan said in order to protect the victim, her age, whether she’s an adult or a minor, would not be disclosed. The Judiciary Police have notified the Social Affairs Bureau about the case for follow up.
Vong was transferred to the Public Prosecution Office (MP) yesterday morning, facing charges of aggravated sexual abuse of a person incapable of resistance, according to Chan.
