The Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in the Macau Special Administrative Region (MSAR) today extended congratulations on yesterday's smooth direct and indirect Legislative Assembly elections and the new legislature to be formed in the MSAR.
The 7th Legislative Assembly election in the MSAR has fully implemented the fundamental principle of "patriots administering Macau," said a spokesperson for the office.
The candidates have fulfilled their duty of loving the motherland and loving Macau, and actively made preparations and participated in the elections, said the spokesperson.
All sectors of civil society and Macau residents cherished their democratic rights and actively cast their ballots, according to the spokesperson.
The elections were held in a clean, harmonious and orderly way, the spokesperson said, adding that the 7th Legislative Assembly elections have shown the spirit of law-based governance in the MSAR.
The MSAR government organized the election according to the law, the Electoral Affairs Commission (CAEAL) and the Court of Final Appeal (TUI)performed their duties under the law, and all sectors of Macau society and Macau residents earnestly exercised their democratic rights as prescribed in the MSAR Basic Law, the spokesperson said.
The whole election process has vividly shown the full and faithful implementation of the "One Country, Two Systems" policy, under which the people of Macau govern Macau, with a high degree of autonomy in the region, the spokesperson added.
Underlining that the Guangdong-Macau in-depth cooperation zone in Hengqin will offer broad space for the MSAR to better integrate itself into the Chinese mainland's development, the spokesperson noted that the "One Country, Two Systems" practice in Macau embraces major development opportunities.
The Liaison Office has trust in the new Legislative Assembly, the spokesperson said, adding that the legislature will fully and faithfully implement the "One Country, Two Systems" policy, exercise its power as prescribed in the MSAR Basic Law, and build on the consensus of all sectors of civil society.
The office believes that the new Legislative Assembly will also actively respond to Macau residents' requirements, give full play to the role of democracy, support and supervise the MSAR government to exercise law-based governance and make new progress in promoting prosperity and stability in the MSAR, the spokesperson added. – Xinhua, MPD
