The shortlisted entries for the preliminary round of the ‘Time Is On My Side – 2021 Greater Bay Area Young Artists Scheme’ competition have been revealed, according to a statement by Sands China earlier this week.

The statement pointed out that the competition is sponsored by The Londoner Macao.

According to the statement, the competition supports the Art Macao: Macao International Art Biennale 2021 series of events organised by the Macau government. It emphasises Chinese cultural interaction and exchanges between young artists in the Greater Bay Area (GBA)

The competition is organised by the Greater Bay Area Young Artists Scheme Organising Committee and co-organised by Faculty of Humanities and Arts at the Macau University of Science and Technology and the Art Museum of Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts. The event’s supporting organisations comprise the China Academy of Art, Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts, and the Sichuan Fine Arts Institute.

Entries were requested from artists in the Greater Bay Area aged 18 to 45 in two categories: painting and photography, the statement added. The statement also noted that with submissions from almost 100 artists from Hong Kong and Macau and about 500 from the mainland, the competition has received extensive interest. A total of 415 photography works and 912 paintings were submitted.

The statement highlighted that 100 artworks, consisting of 50 photographs and 50 paintings, have been selected as finalists and are being exhibited online on a WeChat mini programme ‘GBA 青年藝術家計劃.’ A video conference to determine the 50 shortlisted works in each category was held by a judging panel which comprised six experts from the mainland, Macau, Hong Kong and overseas, the statement noted.

After the opening of the online exhibition to select 24 winners, the final judging process took place. The total cash prizes are over 1.2 million yuan (1.5 million patacas), consisting of three first prizes, four second prizes, and five third prizes in each category.

The prize presentation and exhibition opening ceremony will take place on October 12, with the winning works to be exhibited at The Londoner Macao.
