The China Peking Opera Arts Foundation hopes to promote Peking Opera in Macau, especially among children, Lin Ruikang, an advisor to the foundation, said yesterday.
Lin made the remarks during a Peking opera performance for local pupils. The event, performed by a youth opera group from the mainland, was jointly organised by the Macau Foundation (FM) and the visiting foundation at the Workers’ Children High School in Fai Chi Kei.
According to Wikipedia, Peking opera is a form of traditional Chinese theatre which combines music, vocal performance, mime, dance, and acrobatics. It arose in the late 18th century and became fully developed and recognised by the mid-19th century.
