The third in a series of photo exhibitions of local churches entitled “Discovering Everyday Beauty” (發現日常生活的美) by local photographer António Leong (梁舜堯), organised by the Macau Catholic Culture Association (ACCM), is being held at the group’s office in Rua Formosa (美麗街).

The association invited Leong, who won the 2018 “Mobile Photography” National Geographic International Photo Contest, to display his photos at the exhibition.

According to a statement by the association, Leong was born in Macau “and fell in love with photography many years ago”. Leong started sharing his photos on Facebook in 2012 and set up his own Facebook page – Antonius Photoscript.

“Through this page, António not only has had the opportunity to participate in a number of photo exhibitions promoting Macau tourism around the world, but also has had the honour of cooperating with different charity organisations and artists in various types of photography activities, serving as an instructor and a speaker to share his photography techniques and experience,” the statement points out.

The exhibition will be held until tomorrow at 2B Rua Formosa. The event has displayed a new set of Leong’s photographs of local churches each month for three months since July – The Chapel of Our Lady of Penha in July, São José (St. Joseph’s) Seminary and Church in August, and São Lourenço (St. Lawrence) Church in September. The photographs aim to illustrate the integration of Catholicism with local culture over the past centuries, the statement notes. For more information, visit https://www.macaucca.org/?lang=en.

Catholicism is one of Macau’s main religions alongside Buddhism, Taoism and Protestantism, apart from traditional folk belief.

Macau’s multi-religious environment is one of its various outstanding features in the 11-city Greater Bay Area (GBA).

Due to last week’s detection of three cases of COVID-19, the venue has been temporarily closed. For enquiries, call 2856 2247.
