Macau's imports of mobile phones increased 704.2 percent year-on-year to 13.6 billion patacas in the first eight months of the year, the Statistics and Census Bureau (DSEC) announced today.
According to a DSEC statement, imports of gold jewellery grew 412.6 percent to 6.3 billion patacas.
Beauty, cosmetic and skincare products were Macau's number-one import segment in the January-August period, rising 154.2 percent to 16.4 billion patacas.
Total exports rose 28.2 percent to 8.8 billion patacas. Re-exports accounted for 85.7 percent of all exports.
Imports rose 124,2 percent to 101.3 billion patacas, resulting in an external merchandise trade balance deficit of 92.4 billion patacas.
Most imports originated from the Chinese mainland (33.0 percent), France (17.2 percent) and Italy (11.0 percent).
