A statement by the Civil Protection Operations Centre warned the public yesterday against fabricating or disseminating false information about Macau’s ‘72nd COVID-19 case’ circulating on a social media app.
According to the statement, the Novel Coronavirus Response and Coordination Centre confirmed yesterday that a purported photo and alleged information concerning the case are false.
As of last night, Macau’s official COVID-19 tally stood at 71.
The statement underlined that Macau is still in a state of immediate prevention in response to the current COVID-19 outbreak. The picture that has been uploaded to the app is suspected of breaching Article 26 of Law No. 11/2020 (Civil Protection Legal Regime), the statement said, adding that the Judiciary Police (PJ) have started an investigation into the case.
The Civil Protection Operations Centre urged the public not to fabricate and disseminate deliberately false information about the COVID-19 pandemic with the intent of arousing public fear or causing disturbances, as otherwise they may face criminal liability.
