An exhibition about women’s fashion created by local artist Demi Ding Zhen (丁珍) for Macau’s Demi*D brand is on display at the Macau Fashion Gallery (MFG) as part of the “2021 Brand Story – Macau Original Fashion Exhibition VI”, co-organised by the Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC) and Macau Productivity and Technology Transfer Centre (CPTTM).
According to a CPTTM statement, the exhibition series provides participants with the opportunity to showcase their latest creations and share them with the public through the MFG platform, “bursting with brand vitality”.
The statement stressed that the works are the result of countless remodelling, “full of silent bitterness, and the stories behind them attract fashion enthusiasts’ imperceptibly.”
The “Brand Story” series was first launched in 2017 and eight local brands have been selected for this year’s exhibition, namely Nega C., Lexx Moda, ANIFA, Common Comma, PUI, Demi*D, NO.42 and C/W COLLECTIVE. The designs are to be showcased in eight phases, with one brand being featured in each phase, according to a statement by the gallery.
According to a statement on the gallery’s website, the sixth phase of the exhibition features local brand Demi*D founded by Demi Ding Zhen last year. She studied Visual Communication Design, and worked as a graphic design instructor in various educational centres. She took the “Diploma Programme in Fashion Design and Manufacture” at the Macau Productivity and Technology Transfer Centre (CPTTM). After graduation, she was invited to join the CPTTM Fashion Incubation Programme (MaConsef) (時裝孵化計劃), responsible for the design of clothing series and patterns. She won a number of awards in fashion design competitions in the mainland and Macau.
According to the statement, the exhibition themed “Sunflower” aims to bring optimism and energy to the public and encourage contemporary women to chase their dreams bravely through the positive image of the sunflower which is part of the logo design (Demi*D), adding that women are pursuing material things and lifestyles at a higher level, in the face of the fast pace of modern society and inevitable pressure as civil society develops.
The statement underlined that the exhibition fully embodies the brand’s style by displaying works mainly made of suit fabric. Original patterns and embroidery are used to add more details to the clothes, creating a simple fashion style that features a balance of stiffness and flexibility.
Fashion design is part of Macau’s developing creative and cultural industries that strengthen the special administrative region’s role as a business innovator in the 11-city Greater Bay Area (GBA).
The exhibition runs until Sunday at the gallery at 47 Rua de S. Roque, S. Lázaro district. Admission is free.
Due to this week’s detection of four cases of COVID-19, the venue has been temporarily closed. For enquiries, call 2835 3341 or visit the website https://Macaofashiongallery.com/en/.
