Macau gaming operator SJM Resorts has announced that it has temporarily closed its Casino Oceanus (回力海立方娛樂場) in the Outer Harbour area for disinfection.
The company made the announcement in a statement last night.
The government's Novel Coronavirus Response and Coordination Centre announced earlier this week that two of a four-member COVID-19 cluster of renovation workers had recently visited the casino.
SJM said in the statement that it "fully supports" the Macau government in combating and controlling the novel coronavirus, adding that it "strictly adheres" to the disease-control measures imposed by the local authorities. The company co-founded by Macau's late "gambling king" Stanley Ho Hung Sun also said that it maintains close communication with the government to ensure all COVID-19 control and prevention measures "are put in place to protect the health and safety of its employees and guests."
The statement said that "in accordance with the government's prevention and control guidelines, Casino Oceanus is closed temporarily for disinfection works, while the gaming areas in the Jai Alai building and Hotel Jai Alai remain open as usual."
According to the website of Macau's Gaming Inspection and Coordination Bureau (DICJ), SJM owns 22 of Macau's 41 casinos.
SJM is one of Macau's six rival casino operators.
The Macau government suspended on Tuesday all the city's entertainment venues such as karaoke bars and snooker halls but decided to keep Macau's casinos open as the gaming sector has imposed strict anti-COVID-19 measures since last year.
Macau's third round of citywide, three-day COVID-19 testing of the whole population ends at 9 p.m. tomorrow.
