Macau's observatory announced at 1 a.m. today that it will replace Tropical Cyclone Signal No. 8 with Signal No. 3 at 2 a.m. because local winds and a monsoon are weakening.

According to a statement by the Meteorological and Geophysical Bureau (SMG), Typhoon "Lionrock" was located about 510 km west-southwest of Macau at 1 a.m. and moving away from Macau.

A storm warning signal was still in force at 1 a.m.

However, the weather station warned that Tropical Storm "Kompasu", located east of the Philippines, was forecast to move across the Luzon Strait into the northern part of the South China Sea in the middle of next week.

Signal No. 8 was hoisted at 6 a.m. yesterday.

Meanwhile, the Social Welfare Bureau (IAS) said that as of 1 a.m. today 19 people had sought shelter at the government's four temporary accommodation centres during the typhoon.
