In celebration of the Universal Postal Union’s (UPU) World Post Day, the Macau Post and Telecommunications Bureau (CTT) will conduct a postmark cancellation service and distribute commemorative envelopes today, as well as issue and sell insect-themed stamps, according to a statement by the bureau last week.
The activities were originally slated to be held on Saturday, but were postponed due to Typhoon “Lionrock”.
According to a separate statement, the stamps will mark the 10th theme of this year’s stamp issue. The latest theme aims to raise awareness of protecting biodiversity and natural habitats. Featuring five insect species that are important to Macau’s insect diversity, the issue consists of a set of four stamps and one souvenir sheet. The species depicted by the stamps are the chlorophorus macaumensis ( a type of beetle 澳門綠虎天牛), mortonagrion hirosei (four-spot midget-damsel fly 廣瀨妹蟌), toxorhynchites macaensis (澳門巨蚊) and pyrocoelia analis (firefly 大陸窗螢), while the souvenir sheet shows the leptanilla macaensis (a type of ant 澳門細蟻) a very rare species globally found on Ilha Verde hill in 2017.
The statement pointed out that the stamps have been designed by Yu Si while the information brochure’s text was written by Leong Chi Man from the Centre for Macau Studies of the University of Macau (UM).
The statement lists the price of the stamps as follows: one set of four stamps costs 17 patacas, the first day cover with stamps costs 23 patacas, the first day cover with souvenir sheet costs 20 patacas, the information brochure with stamps is priced at 24 patacas, while the information brochure with the souvenir sheet costs 21 patacas.
The statement pointed out that the issuance of the stamps and the postmark cancellation service are only available at the Philatelic Shop of the General Post Office in Largo do Senado from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., adding that no mailing service will be available for the postmarks.
Following the pandemic prevention measures, the statement stressed that everyone is required to wear a facemask, present his or her Macau Health Code and adhere to the bureau’s crowd management measures.
Additionally, the bureau announced two new themes for its 2021 stamp issuing plan, which are the “20th Anniversary of the Establishment of the Unitary Police Service” for October 29, and the “20th Anniversary of the Establishment of the Macau Customs Service” on November 1.
