The 7th term of the Legislative Assembly (AL) of the Macau Special Administrative Region (MSAR) will formally commence with the election of its president, vice-president and first and second secretaries on Saturday, the legislature has announced.
According to an AL statement yesterday, the election of the president, vice-president and first and second secretaries will take place on Saturday at 3 p.m. in the legislature's hemicycle. They will be elected by the 33 members of the legislature.
According to a statement by the Macau Government Information Bureau (GCS), the lawmakers will be sworn in at noon on Saturday, while the president, vice-president and two secretaries will be sworn in at 4 p.m. According to the report, the swearing-in ceremonies will be held at the China-Portuguese-speaking Countries Commercial and Trade Service Platform Complex near the Legislative Assembly building in Praia Grande (Nam Van).
Macau's direct and indirect Legislative Assembly elections were held on September 12. While14 lawmakers were directly elected by universal suffrage (irrespective of nationality), 12 were indirectly elected by association representatives. After the elections, seven lawmakers were appointed by Chief Executive Ho Iat Seng.
Each term of the legislature lasts four years.
