Macau's weather station said this morning that Typhoon Signal No. 8 will remain hoisted this afternoon.
According to a statement by the Meteorological and Geophysical Bureau (SMG), Typhoon "Kompasu" was centred about 350 km south-southwest of Macau at at 10 a.m., moving towards Hainan province.
The bureau forecast minor floods between 9 p.m. today and 4 a.m. tomorrow.
"Kompasu" will make landfall in Hainan during this afternoon and tonight, the bureau said.
According to a statement by Macau's civil protection service this morning, 13 people were at government typhoon shelters at 10 a.m.
As of 10 a.m. the Civil Protection Operations Centre had reported four minor incidents since Signal No. 8 was hoisted by the observatory at 10:30 p.m. yesterday, such as fallen objects.
