Amidst the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and yesterday’s Typhoon “Kompasu”, the 2021 edition of Orbis Macau’s special annual advocacy and fundraising campaign, Action for Sight, officially kicked off online yesterday to urge people to “KEEP AN EYE ON EYESIGHT,”, a statement by the local branch of the non-governmental organisation (NGO) said yesterday.
According to the statement, the public can participate in and support Action for Sight online, at https://orbismacau.shoppoint.mo until December 9, while collecting the limited-edition Action for Sight badges with 100 -pataca donations or above. The statement pointed out that donors will receive one of the two designs, and for more details visit https://www.orbis.org/mo-afs-en. The statement said that as the theme of the campaign is “KEEP AN EYE ON EYESIGHT,” the community is reminded to take better care of their eyes, while people are also urged to “keep an eye” on the eyesight of the people around them, as well as those in need of eyecare worldwide.
The statement noted that as part of Action for Sight’s advocacy programme, an Eye Allergy in Children online survey will also be carried out until November 15 to create greater awareness by the people of Macau on this common, yet often misunderstood condition. The statement underlined that the public are invited to take part in the survey to find out more about eye allergies, adding that the data received will be analysed by Kiang Wu Hospital, and a presentation and useful information on Eye allergies will be shared with the public in December.
The statement also said that although the Orbis Flying Eye Hospital (FEH) has not been flying because of the pandemic, its programmes have been continuing virtually via the organisation’s telemedicine platform, Cybersight, for eye care professionals.
Orbis Macau also said that as disruption brought on by COVID-19 continues, support from the community is needed more than ever, urging people to join Orbis Macau with the Action for Sight Ambassadors and different supporters within the community and pull dedicated efforts together to raise vital resources to help get eyecare into communities that need it most so that none will have to live needlessly with preventable blindness.
