The Macau Institute for Tourism Studies’ (IFTM) Global Centre of Tourism Education and Training, known as The Centre, has provided an online strategic management training programme to graduating hospitality students of the Sunway University in Malaysia, according to a statement by the institute yesterday.
The statement noted that the programme was delivered on August 30 and September 1,6 and 8, and was attended by about 70 students. It is also the first training and exchange activity between The Centre and Sunway University, and comprised eight webinars that covered topics like Crisis Management, Organisation & Operations at the Strategic Level, Human Resource Management and Leadership and Strategic Change.
The statement underlined that the programme covered the importance of distinguishing the difference between vision and mission, which was delivered by tourism author and scholar Alastair Morrison. The statement pointed out that IFTM scholars also delivered presentations on related topics during the programme, such as Risk and Crisis Management and Contemporary Trends and Issues in Leadership, while external presenters were invited to share examples of how they dealt with challenges and issues in operations and human resources during the COVID-19 pandemic. Meanwhile, Ritz-Carlton Macau General Manager Jackie Hoo also shared her experience and reflections on leadership management.
The Centre is part of the institute’s efforts to support Macau’s position as a global centre for tourism education and training, the statement underlined. The statement added that in cooperation with the United Nations World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO) and other parties, it provides training and courses to help tourism officials and professionals improve their knowledge and skills.
