The Macau Government Tourism Office (MGTO) announced in a statement yesterday that the work meeting for the “Macau Creative City of Gastronomy” was assembled and held online, with MGTO sharing the first monitoring report to be submitted to the Secretariat of the UNESCO Creative Cities Network (UCCN) and providing an overview of UCCN’s current situation.
The statement said that as the UCCN’s member cities are required to submit their monitoring reports once every four years, Macau, which was designated as a UNESCO Creative City of Gastronomy in November 2017, must submit its report next month. MGTO has asked 18 public entities, academic institutions and units for summaries of work progress over the past four years and suggestions on future action plans since January 8, the statement noted.
The statement underlined that officials from MGTO and relevant government entities joined representatives of academia and industry organisations for the meeting, which was chaired by MGTO Director and Macau’s focal point to the UCCN, Maria Helena de Senna Fernandes. The statement added that MGTO delivered the latest overview of UCCN and presented the draft monitoring report of 2017 – 2021.
The statement highlighted that throughout the last four years, MGTO and the related governmental entities, academic institutions and industry operators have been making collaborative efforts to develop the city as a Creative City of Gastronomy, including organising the “International Gastronomy Forum, Macau” and launching the Macanese Cuisine Database. The statement added that relevant government entities, academic institutions and industry operators also strived to enhance different areas of work such as facilities and resources, education and training, events and promotion, and made efforts and contributions towards progressing Macau’s development as a Creative City of Gastronomy.
The statement added that the report will further explain the initiatives taken in response to the pandemic and to revitalise the industries. The statement also pointed out that in response to the effects of the pandemic, the government hasadopted various pandemic prevention measures for the catering industry and the area of food safety, and supportive measures to encourage tourism and other related industries.
Meanwhile, the statement added that during the meeting, officials of various government entities and industry delegates also reported on their work progress and future work plans on how to advance as a creative city of gastronomy.
