The Executive Council announced yesterday that it has completed its discussion on the government’s 2021 budget amendment bill that is proposing to raise its current expenditure by another 2.3 billion patacas.
According to a statement by the council, the proposed increase would mean that this year’s budget would reach 105.8 billion patacas.
The council is the government’s top advisory body.
The amendment bill will now be presented as an urgent matter to the Legislative Assembly for debate and vote.
The statement said that the budget’s second increase in expenditure this year was needed to cover the government’s various financial support measures for citizens and small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) during the COVID-19 pandemic.
