Global COVID-19 death toll reaches 5 million

The world's novel coronavirus death toll has reached 5 million, the US-based  real-time statistics reference website Worldometer reported tonight.

As of 00:24 (Macau time) today the death toll stood at 5,000,122, according to worldometers.info. The global COVID-19 tally amounted to 246,534,248, or about 3.1 percent of the world population which, according to the website, stands at 7.9 billion.

According to the website, the novel coronavirus is affecting 221 countries and territories. Macau ranks 210th among them in terms of reported COVID-19 cases, according to Worldometer. Its tally stands at 77. Macau has zero novel coronavirus fatalities. 

The countries with the highest COVID-19 death tolls, as of 00:24 today, were the US (763,784), Brazil (607,125) and India (457,246).
