Macau's 38 casinos in operation last month generated 4.36 billion patacas (US$545 million) in gross gaming revenue, a year-on-year drop of 40.0 percent, the Gaming Inspection and Coordination Bureau (DICJ) announced today.

Last month's receipts were the sector's lowest this year. October was this year's second month that Macau's gross gaming revenue suffered a year-on-year decline. In January, the revenue was down by 63.7 percent compared to the same month of last year.

Month-on-month, October's revenue declined by 25.7 percent.

In the first 10 months, gross gaming revenue grew 57.3 percent to 72.1 billion patacas.

Macau's vitally important gaming sector has been hard hit by the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.

According to DICJ data, Macau had 42 casinos at the end of the third quarter, operations of four of which (all of them owned by SJM) were suspended. SJM owned 23 casinos, Galaxy owned six, Venetian owned five and Melco Crown owned four, while Wynn and MGM each owned two casinos.
