The Monetary Authority of Macau (AMCM) said in a statement yesterday that residents can now use Self-Service Coin Exchange Machines, which exchange coins for banknotes, at certain branches of Macau’s two banknote-issuing lenders, Bank of China and Banco Nacional Ultramarino (BNU).

According to the statement, during the trial period only the Bank of China branches in Rua de Cinco de Outubro, Avenida Almeida Ribeiro and at the Almirante Lacerda Municipal Market (commonly known as Red Market) as well as at the BNU branches in Iao Hon, Brilhantismo Building and Nova City can exchange pataca coins for pataca banknotes.

The statement underlined that residents can use the machines free of charge, adding that they should avoid putting anything other than coins into the machines.

The Monetary Authority of Macau thanked the two banks for their cooperation and participation in the coin exchange machine project. The statement urged residents to provide feedback during the trial period, hoping that in the near future more machines could be installed.

For more information regarding the Self-Service Coin Exchange Machines, residents can contact the two banks for details.
