A non-resident worker from the mainland was arrested last Thursday for stealing a MACAU Pass in August and spending about 500 patacas with it, Public Security Police (PSP) spokesman Wong Wai Chon said during a regular press conference yesterday.
The 45-year-old suspect surnamed Deng told the police that he works in a supermarket.
According to Wong, a local woman reported to the Public Security Police on August 7 that she had lost her MACAU Pass but she didn’t remember when and where she had last used it. The victim told the police that the smartcard had a balance of about 500 patacas and she discovered that someone had spent the money so she reported the case to the police.
Wong said that the Public Security Police identified Deng as the suspect and told him to report to a police station last Thursday. Under questioning, Deng told the police that he discovered the card when he was walking along Rua da Serenidade near the Barrier Gate checkpoint. He stole it out of greed and spent all the money.
Deng has been transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office (MP), facing a theft-by-finding charge, according to Wong.
