The Marine and Water Bureau (DSAMA) said in a statement yesterday that it has nabbed two people for illegally fishing using drones at night.

According to the statement, a resident reported the case to the Macau Customs Service, saying that there were people using a drone to throw fishing nets into the waters near Hac Sa Beach. The statement said that after customs officers notified the bureau, the latter immediately sent its officials to the scene and caught two suspects who were controlling the drone.

No details were issued about the two suspects.

The statement noted that after the customs officers and the bureau officials searched the waters near Hac Sa Beach where they found long fishing nets measuring a total of 150 metres.

The bureau criticised those who engage in illegal fishing activities as fishing in swimming areas could endanger swimmers and beach-goers. The statement also underlined the legal consequences of illegal fishing, adding that residents should abide by the law and not participate in any illegal fishing activities.
