The Municipal Affairs Bureau (IAM) invited the Macau Customs Service to host a workshop on Thursday about intellectual property (IP) rights in an attempt to urge 2021 Christmas Market bidders to respect copyright.

According to a statement by the Macau Customs Service on Friday, its officers held the workshop on Thursday to educate bidders about the importance of intellectual property rights. The officers also warned the bidders about the penalties for copyright infringement, adding that they also talked about previous cases which involved bidders violating the intellectual property right law.

The statement said that at the workshop, the officers handed out brochures to remind bidders to abide by the law. The officers also urged bidders to purchase goods from reputable suppliers and to consider whether the products would violate copyright laws. The statement underlined that the bidders should also assess whether the goods are genuine, in order to avoid being fined by the Customs Service.

The Customs Service said that if residents suspect any copyright infringement products they should report them by calling the 24-hour hotline on 2896 5001 or email to info@customs.gov.mo.
