Declan Leong Pui Hong, vice president of network services of local telecommunications company CTM, told reporters yesterday that CTM is working towards educating small-and-medium enterprises (SME’s) about cybersecurity.
He made the remarks after a media tour conducted at the CTM Telecentro Concept Store in Taipa to introduce the enhancement on information and cybersecurity work of its upgraded Network Management Centre (NMC) and its Security Operation Centre (SOC2).
Leong said that CTM has already developed a platform to make sure that services can be provided to SMEs, adding that the company understands that some SMEs may be facing challenges regarding their “human resources” and their “professionalism” on system security or information security. Leong said that solutions and services have been designed for SMEs to enable them to utilise CTM’s services and ensure that they are well protected, adding that it can help “to make sure that their business and their information are protected with high security” for those who may not have the people or proper knowledge about it.
Leong also said he believes that awareness for information security for SMEs can still be further promoted, as it is important to “protect their own interests”. He underlined that CTM has been “doing a lot of work” towards educating SMEs about the importance of being aware of cybersecurity before CTM provides the solutions or services to them. He said that this was being done as CTM wants to ensure that it can use its capabilities to help SMEs now and in the future to provide a “stable service and a better environment” for providing services.
Speaking of the difficulties concerning hiring those who can work in cybersecurity and information security, Leong said that though there are a lot of fresh graduates in the Information Technology (IT) field, the topic is still new in Macau. He said he hoped that more young people can “upgrade themselves to focus on this area of development” to ensure that they can be capable of helping Macau to continue to develop continuously in the long term, as well as in the Greater Bay Area (GBA).
Moreover, Leong mentioned that the company is constantly working towards ensuring that employees are well-trained to be able to apply their “knowledge and skillset” to the company and also provide external support to companies who may not have these resources.
