The Macau Special Administrative Region (MSAR) will earnestly safeguard national security and further improve the legal and institutional guarantees for the principle of "patriots administering Macau," Chief Executive Ho Iat Seng said today.
The MSAR will improve the supporting legislation on safeguarding national security, step up law enforcement in this regard, enhance liaison and cooperation with cities in the mainland, particularly those in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay Area (GBA), to prevent and deter acts endangering national security, and guard against interference or penetration of external forces, Ho said in his 2022 Policy Address, which he delivered in the local legislature's hemicycle.
He also stressed enhancing and expanding information and education on national security.
Macau will also advance its cooperation with the mainland in various sectors while focusing on building the Guangdong-Macau In-depth Cooperation zone in Zhuhai's Hengqin island, so as to be better integrated into the country's overall development, Ho noted.
The MSAR will implement financial policies of the Greater Bay Area, improve policies that facilitate Macau residents to work and live in the mainland, attract more sci-tech enterprises to operate in Macau and improve the MSAR's capabilities of scientific research, he said.
Macau will also step up cooperation and exchanges with the countries and regions along the Belt and Road (B&R) in education, tourism, health care, sports and culture and fully play its role of a platform linking China and Portuguese-speaking countries, Ho added.
