The Macau Polytechnic Institute (IPM) announced in a statement yesterday that it concluded its 20th Macau-wide English Speech Contest and the 27th “21st Century Cup” National English Speaking Competition Macau Regional Contest earlier this month in the IPM auditorium.

The statement noted that the contest was organised by the higher education institute, with the overall theme being “Planet Earth”, which also comprised subtopics for different categories, which were “The Future of Human Beings” for the College Category, “Space Exploration” for the Senior High School Category, and “Caring for the Earth” for the Upper Primary School Category.

According to the statement, the contest has had “a nationwide affiliation” with China Daily’s “21st Century” National English Speaking Competition since the 4th Macau-wide English Speech Contest in 2005, with “many winners” of speech contest advancing to the national English speaking competition. The statement added that this year’s winners of the upper primary school, senior high school and college categories will have the opportunity to participate in the national competition. The statement also said that College Category winners in the finals have also participated in the Foreign Language Teaching and Research Press (FLTRP) Cup National English Speaking Contest in recent years.

The statement pointed out that the contest’s final round included a total of 41 contestants who were selected from 136 semi-finalists. The statement said that the contest’s semi-finals took place via “video judging”, while the final round took place on stage and was live-streamed, as well as judged by professors representing higher education institutions in Macau.

The statement underlined that further details about the annual contest can be found at http://speechcontest.ipm.edu.mo/
