The Public Security Police (PSP) arrested a taxi driver on Saturday for allegedly demanding HK$1,500 from a passenger from the mainland after he left his mobile phone in the cab.
A PSP spokesperson said in a regular press briefing yesterday that the 40-year-old male passenger had hailed the taxi driven by the suspect, surnamed Fong, in Zape to go to a hotel in Cotai on Saturday night. Soon after the passenger, surnamed Zhong, got out of the taxi, he found he had left his mobile phone behind.
According to the spokesperson, Zhong used his wife’s mobile phone to call his phone. Fong answered the phone and told Zhong that he had to pay HK$1,500 if he wanted his mobile phone back.
