The Judiciary Police (PJ) were notified by Kiang Wu Hospital that a local woman died in its intensive care unit (ICU) on Saturday afternoon and requested the police to launch an investigation, PJ spokesman Leng Kam Lon said in a statement later that day.

According to the PJ statement, the victim’s family told the police that they had heard a loud noise coming from the bathroom early on Saturday and discovered that she was lying in front of the bathroom door. The victim told her family that she felt unwell after vomiting. She also said that she had cleaned up her vomit.

Leng added that the victim was taken to the hospital by ambulance. By the time she was taken to the hospital, she had prolonged apnoea and was in a coma. Doctors found that the victim had a large amount of foam in her lungs and stomach. It was suspected that detergent was the cause of foam. She was pronounced dead later that day.

According to Leng, the deceased was a 48-year-old woman who lived in Avenida da Praia Grande.

Leng said that no signs of foul play were found on the body. Moreover, the detergent the deceased drank was taken to the hospital for examination. The bottle of detergent was almost empty, according to the statement.

According to a preliminary examination of the corpse, her oral cavity was covered in white foam. The body did not have other obvious scars or bruises.

According to the statement, the cause of death of the deceased is subject to an official forensic examination. The Judiciary Police are continuing their investigation into the case.
