Sports Bureau (ID) President Pun Weng Kun told reporters on the sidelines of the Wynn Cup Greater Bay Area Qualifying Tournament’s traditional blessing ceremony yesterday that the bureau has received a “positive” response from the General Administration of Sport of China (GAS) about the national sports team’s Olympic gold medallists visiting Macau next month.

According to Pun, the bureau has been constantly discussing with GAS the possibility of having mainland Chinese Olympic gold medallists visit Macau and the time schedule and travel arrangements for them. Pun added that GAS has been “supportive” throughout the discussion.

Pun pointed out that he looked forward to the national sports team’s gold medallists and athletes visiting Macau so that the public can experience the feeling of “loving the country and loving Macau”. Pun said that after meeting the gold medallists local residents could be expected to be more aware of sports news.

When asked by a reporter about the estimated number of athletes visiting Macau next month, Pun said he estimated that there will be 20 to 30 arriving. Pun also noted that more detailed information about the visit will be announced possibly next week.
