An exhibition entitled “Time Is On My Side” (明日可及) is being hosted by The Londoner Macao resort until December 5. The event consists of 24 winning works of photographs and paintings from the competition “Time Is On My Side – 2021 Greater Bay Area Young Artists Scheme” (明日可及 – 2021大灣區青年藝術家計劃).

According to a statement by Sands China, the competition is sponsored by The Londoner Macao. It supports the Art Macao: Macao International Art Biennale 2021 series of events organised by the Macau government. It emphasises cultural interaction and exchanges between young artists in the Greater Bay Area (GBA)

According to a statement by The Londoner, the GBA Young Artists Scheme focuses on promoting Chinese culture by providing a platform for young artists in the GBA. The statement said that the scheme aims to demonstrate the inclusivity of the cultural industries in the GBA and highlight the potential of the younger generation by showcasing their paintings and photography.

The theme is “Time Is On My Side” for participants to explore their creativity and imagination, the statement added.

Local artist Sisi Wong Si Teng (黃斯婷), one of the first-place winners in photography, is quoted as saying by the exhibition brochure that her work entitled “Pantheon” (萬神殿) refers to the religious architecture design from ancient Rome. She says that standing in the pantheon’s centre, where light penetrates from the sky to the roof to the ground, is like receiving the Holy Light. The connection between “human and the universe”; “human and heaven”; “human and God” becomes unlimited, according to her statement.

The Pantheon, (“temple] of all the gods”) is a former Roman temple, now a Catholic church (Basilica of St. Mary and the Martyrs), in Rome, on the site of an earlier temple commissioned by Marcus Agrippa during the reign of Augustus (27 BC – 14 AD), according to Wikipedia.

The brochure also quotes Guangzhou artist Zhang Zhao-ying (張釗瀛), one of the first-place winners in painting, whose work is entitled “World Amusement Park – Mirror Lakes Impression” (世界樂園 鏡湖印象), as pointing out that Macau and Zhuhai are the nation’s earliest ports and where cultural exchanges took place.

All winning artworks are on display at The Londoner Macao’s Level 1 in Cotai until December 5. For enquiries and online exhibition, visit https://en.sandsresortsmacao.com/artmacao-2021/art-competition.html or official account/mini programme ‘GBA 青年藝術家計劃’ on WeChat.

The Greater Bay Area consists of nine cities in Guangdong province and the nation’s two special administrative regions – Hong Kong and Macau.
