An illustration exhibition entitled “The Pleasures” (悅者 - 粱子恆專插畫展) by local artist Nono Leong Chi Hang (梁子恆) is on display until Saturday at the “At Light Art Gallery” in Nam Van. The event is organised by the Arts Empowering Lab (AEL) (弘藝峰創作社) and sponsored by the public Macau Foundation (FM).

Leong likes to play with themes and has developed visual effects for all the illustrations, according to a statement by the AEL’s exhibition curator Cora Si Wun Cheng (施援程) who is also the chief supervisor of the Macao Digital Photography Association (MDPA).

The statement quotes Cheng as saying that the exhibits have a strong contrast between the colours black and shrimp which act as the key visual. Although the characters in the exhibition have a joyful, happy face, each of them is merely a skeleton without a soul. With the theme being wine, women, wealth and temper, it looks like there is infinite desire hidden behind the characters’ joy, Cheng says.

According to separate statement by the gallery, Leong chairs the Macau Illustrators Association and the founder and art director of Chiii Design Macau. Leong founded the association in 2015 in order to promote the development of the local illustration sector, adding that Leong’s works have won more than 100 awards in exhibitions in over 10 countries and regions such as the IF Design Award in Germany. The IF Design Award has been organised in Germany since 1953 and identifies relevant design for business and everyday life purposes.

The exhibition runs until Saturday at the “At Light Art Gallery” in Pátio do Padre Narciso (澳門卑第圍1號地下) in Nam Van. It opens from Monday to Saturday from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. Admission is free.

As part of the Macau government’s COVID-19 prevention measures, all visitors are required to wear a facemask, show their digital health code and have their temperature checked.
