Resort operator Galaxy Entertainment Group (GEG) held an opening ceremony on the first floor of Broadway Macau yesterday to launch its “2021 Galaxy Entertainment Macao International Carnival”, providing a selection of activities for the public leading up to Sunday’s marathon.

The marathon-themed six-day carnival is situated at the Broadway Food Street and will run until Saturday, providing activities for the public such as photo corners, a number of booths that feature free games and booths run by 10 local social services organisations, food and performances. The carnival also includes lucky draw activities offering a string of prizes, including a room at Galaxy Hotel.

During the ceremony, several guests were in attendance such as GEG Director Philip Cheng Yee Sing and local runners who shared their individual experiences with the audience, as well as preparation tips for the marathon. Sports Bureau (ID) President Pun Weng Kun was quoted in a statement provided by the resort operator as saying that “the Macau International Marathon is in its 40th year. As the event continues to grow, its peripheral activities have become more abundant.” Pun also thanked GEG on behalf of the organising committee for supporting and title-sponsoring the event for 18 consecutive years. Moreover, the statement pointed out that a “GEG Macau Cup” has been set up by the resort operator to inspire local athletes who are competing in the marathon and half-marathon.

After the ceremony, the guests visited the carnival to explore and experience some of the activities offered to the public and participated in some of the game booths. Prior to visiting the carnival, the guests also visited the bib collection area and the “History of Macao International Marathon” exhibition located on the mezzanine floor of Broadway Macau.
