Government-appointed lawmaker Gabriel Tong Io Cheng said yesterday that his political activities and his academic research and teaching at the University of Macau (UM) should be seen as separate aspects of his life.
Tong, the acting dean of UM’s Faculty of Law (FLL), made the remarks outside the Legislative Assembly (AL) when asked by reporters about a Facebook page created recently by a group of students at UM’s FLL urging UM students and alumni to sign a petition titled “Depose FLL Interim Dean [Gabriel] Tong Hio Cheng”.
Tong attended a meeting of the legislature’s 2nd Standing Committee yesterday.
