Mobile phone imports rise 533 pct to 15.2 billion patacas in Jan-Oct

Macau’s mobile phone imports rose by 532.9 percent year-on-year to 15.2 billion patacas in the first 10 months of the year, the Statistics and Census Bureau (DSEC) has announced.

According to a recent DSEC statement, mobile phone imports were Macau’s number-two import segment in the January-October period, after imports of beauty, cosmetic and skincare products which rose by 54.6 percent year-on-year to 20.6 billion patacas.

Gold jewellery imports rose by 295.1 percent to 7.5 billion patacas in the 10-month period.

Macau’s total imports grew by 83.8 percent to 123.7 billion patacas in the first 10 months, while exports rose by 24.3 percent to 10.7 billion patacas, resulting in a trade balance deficit to 113.0 billion patacas. Re-exports accounted for 84.8 percent of all exports.

Macau’s main sources of imports continued to be the Chinese mainland (32.2 percent), France (17.7 percent) and Italy (10.9 percent).’

The city’s main exports markets were once again Hong Kong (69.7 percent) and mainland China (14.8 percent).
