Nation’s Olympians to visit Dec 19-21: Sports Bureau

Sports Bureau (ID) President Pun Weng Kun said during a press conference at the bureau on Friday that the nation’s Olympians will be visiting Macau from December 19 to 21.

Pun pointed out that this summer Team China won 38 gold, 32 silver and 18 bronze medals, garnering a total of 88 medals at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. The statement said that on December 19, the Olympians will be entering Macau from the Hong Kong–Zhuhai–Macau Bridge (HZMB) after 14-days mandatory quarantine in Zhuhai following their visit to Hong Kong which ended yesterday.

Pun noted that during their visit, they will attend a raft of events, such as experience-sharing with young local athletes, a large-scale night gala and a visit to the UNESCO World Heritage Sites. He added that the gala will take place on December 20 at 7:15 p.m. at the Macau East Asian Games Dome.

An ID statement said on Friday that the tickets for the gala will be free of charge. Those are interested can sign up online to join a lucky draw. The lucky ones will have a chance to be one of the 3,300 people to meet the Olympians in the flesh. The statement underlined that Macau residents (ID card holders) and non-resident workers (commonly known as blue-card holders) are eligible to enter the lucky draw.

The statement pointed out that the sign-up period is from December 11 at 9 a.m. to December 15 at 9 p.m. on www.sport.gov.mo, stressing the result for the lucky draw will be announced in the afternoon of December 14. The statement said that those who are selected will be able to pick up their tickets from December 15-17 from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. The statement underlined that each person can at most get two tickets, adding that seats will not be assigned.

The statement did not say where the winners will be able to collect their tickets.

The statement said that in order to comply with the COVID-19 prevention and control measures, the people who are attending the night gala must present a nucleic acid test (NAT) negative result taken in the last seven days, wear a facemask, get their temperature checked, and display a valid Macau Health Code.

December 20 and 21 are public holidays.
