A local man was arrested last week for sexually harassing a woman in a lift of a residential building in the Seac Pai Van public housing estate in Coloane on November 26, Public Security Police (PSP) spokeswoman Lai In Hong said in a press briefing on Friday.

The local suspect in his forties surnamed Ng lives in the same building as the victim.

According to Lai, a woman in her thirties reported to the Public Security Police on November 26 that a man first touched her buttocks in the lift in the morning of that day. She told the police that she tried to move away but he then touched her arms. After she left the lift, he followed her for a while and then disappeared. As the victim panicked for some time, she only reported the case to the police in the evening.

Lai said PSP officers scrutinised the CCTV footage of the building and discovered that Ng entered the lift on the third floor of the building, approached the victim and touched her. The officers also confirmed that Ng lives in the same building and later arrested him at his home. Under questioning, Ng denied committing the crime and claimed that he could not remember the incident.

Ng has been transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office (MP), facing a sexual harassment charge, according to Lai.
