21st Macau City Fringe Festival to start Jan 12: IC

The Cultural Affairs Bureau said in a statement yesterday that the 21st Macau City Fringe Festival will be taking place from January 12 – 24.

According to the statement, the festival comprises 15 outreach activities, including screening sessions, sharing sessions, workshops, exhibitions, seminars, exchange sessions, as well as immersive interactive experiences. The statement underlined that the aim of the event is to “expand the public’s artistic horizons from multiple perspectives”.

IC President Mok Ian Ian said during a press conference about the event at Macau Cultural Centre (CCM) yesterday, art is the reflection of the real world. She underlined that the 21st Macau City Fringe Festival, themed “Margin Break”, not only breaks through the “margins” of art with constant innovation but also breaks through the “margins” of time and space. She added that art reduces the distance between people in different places and, more importantly, hopes to bring comfort to the public through a series of brilliant and diverse programmes and outreach activities.

Mok also said that the upcoming “Crème de la Fringe” series, highlighting two communities in the same city, which will present scenes in Iao Hon and bring art into the lives of the elderly and people with physical and mental disabilities. She pointed out that the aim of “Crème de la Fringe” is to enhance the mutual understanding between creators and participants, hence breaking through the “margins” between people’s hearts and minds by using art as a bridge.

Meanwhile, Mok also said that as the COIVD-19 pandemic has been rapidly changing people’s views, lifestyles and technology, this year’s festival will continue to strive to break through spatial limitation via online and offline interactions.

The statement noted that registration for all outreach activities can be made online or by phone from today until Sunday. Online registration can be made at https://www.icm.gov.mo/eform/event.
