The Municipal Affairs Bureau (IAM) urged residents in a statement on Friday not to consume six flavours of Godiva ice cream as it contains a banned pesticide.

The six flavours are Chocolate Cheesecake Flavoured Ice Cream, Milk Chocolate Frozen Confection with Dark Chocolate, Vanilla Flavoured Cocoa Infused Ice Cream, Caramel Coffee Frozen Confection with Dark Chocolate Chips, and Strawberry Ice Cream with Dark Chocolate Chips.

According to the statement, Hong Kong health authorities have announced that the stabiliser used in the six flavours contains ethylene oxide, which is banned in the European Union. The statement underlined that these six flavours were sold in shops in Macau. The bureau has already asked all suppliers and retailers to recall the six flavours and urged residents not to eat them.

The statement underlined that as soon as the bureau received the information about the problem, it immediately notified the food industry. The bureau urged the food industry to recall the problematic ice cream and notify the bureau.

Godiva Chocolatier, founded in 1926, is a Belgian chocolate maker which is jointly owned by Turkish conglomerate Yıldız Holding and South Korean equity company MBK Partners.
