The Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC) announced in a statement on Friday that it will be closing its Wong Ieng Kuan Library in Taipa on January 1 to “integrate and utilise public services”, with the facilities to be transferred to the Municipal Affairs Bureau (IAM).
The library, which is located at Hei Loi Tang Plaza in Rua do Regedor in Taipa, was officially opened in 2005. The statement noted that the library’s closure comes after considering its condition and usage, as well as the decline in the number of readers. The statement added that the public prefer to use the Taipa Library at the Taipa Central Park, which contains “better reading and space resources” while also pointing out that there are various service centres for public use near the Wong Ieng Kuan Library for newspaper reading and courses, among other services.
The statement pointed out that the bureau is operating15 public libraries in various districts and will continue to improve its library services and resources, in order to improve the public’s reading experience.
The statement underlined that more information can be found by visiting www.library.gov.mo or using the mobile app “My Library”. Enquiries can also be made by contacting the Macau Public Library on 2884 3172 during counter service hours.
