Victim pulled by her hair, dragged to the floor
An Indonesian domestic helper was taken to a police station for questioning on Monday for attacking her employer’s daughter, according to a statement by the Public Security Police (PSP) late Monday.
According to the statement, the Public Security Police discovered a video clip which has recently been circulating on social media showing a woman attacking a girl in school uniform near the family home’s front door. The PSP statement underlined that the police are highly concerned about what they saw on the video clip and therefore contacted the victim’s parents who decided to take legal action against their maid. The statement pointed out that the maid was taken to a police station for further investigation.
The video appears to show a younger child witnessing the brutal attack.
The video clip circulating on social media shows a woman pulling a girl by her hair and dragging her to the floor in a residential flat when she was angrily telling the girl to go to school. The video clip is apparently part of the CCTV footage dated December 13 (Monday) from the girl’s home.
The Public Security Police said in a follow-up statement yesterday that according to an in-depth investigation by the police there are strong indications that the domestic helper “cruelly treated” the girl under her care. The statement added that the maid’s non-resident work permit (“blue card”) has been cancelled with immediate effect and that she is awaiting deportation.
The suspect, who is in her thirties, was transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office (MP) yesterday, facing a charge of mistreating a minor, according to the statement.
Meanwhile, the Education and Youth Development Bureau (DSEDJ) also said in a statement on Monday night that it had been aware of a video clip circulating on social media showing a domestic helper violently attacking a girl. The statement said that DSEDJ officials reported the case to the police and contacted the girl’s school for follow-up action. The bureau has provided support for the girl and her parents, including sending psychological counsellors to the school.
The PSP and DSEDJ did not say when and where the incident happened. Neither did they reveal the victim’s age.
The DSEDJ statement pledged that the bureau will assess if the incident has adversely affected the girl emotional and psychological condition.
The statement condemned the incident and reaffirmed that the bureau has zero tolerance for violence against children.
