MGTO extends ‘Macao Light Festival 2021’ to Jan 16

The Macau Government Tourism Office (MGTO) said in a statement on Saturday that on New Year’s Eve Macau’s number of visitor arrivals reached 42,341.

According to the statement, this was the second highest number of visitor arrivals in 2021, while Labour Day in May holds the highest record of visitor arrivals of the year, at about 44,000. The statement noted that in the past week, the daily average number of visitor arrivals was about 30,230, while the daily average hotel occupancy rate stood at 62.8 percent.

Meanwhile, the Macau Government Tourism Office (MGTO) announced in a recent statement that the “Macao Light Festival 2021 – Travellers from Mars” will be extended until January 16.

The statement pointed out that the decision to extend the festival and most of its activities and installations aims to continue the impact of the “mega event”, as well as to attract locals and visitors alike to various districts in the city to participate and open their wallets.

With the exception of some installations, games, and projection mapping shows, the festival will continue to take place daily from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. until January 16, with the last projection mapping show starting at 9:50 p.m. per night, the statement noted.

The statement underlined that the projection mapping shows will only continue to take place in Largo do Pagode do Bazar near the Inner Harbour, Largo dos Bombeiros in Taipa, and the Chapel of St. Francis Xavier in Coloane Village.

For the light installations and games, the statement listed several areas such as the central district, Nam Van district and Nape, as well as some areas in Taipa and Coloane where the programmes will be continued. Moreover, a detailed version of the extended programmes and shows can be found in the infographic provided by MGTO.

The statement also said that MGTO’s official WeChat ID and website mlf.macaotourism.gov.mo can be visited for more details about the event programme and arrangements.

The statement emphasised that MGTO will comply with the Health Bureau’s (SSM) COVID-19 pandemic prevention measures, requiring visitors to wear a facemask, present a valid Macau Health Code, maintain at least one-metre social distancing and undergo temperature checks. Venue codes are also posted for visitors to scan using the Macau Health Code app.
