GEG attaches great importance to talent cultivation, which is seen to be the foundation for building Macau as a World Centre of Tourism and Leisure. Throughout the years, in alignment with the Macau SAR Government’s “Building Macau Through Talent Training” policies, GEG has introduced a variety of career development and training schemes aimed at giving a boost to team members as they scale to new heights in their careers. GEG’s development programs have spanned multiple fields, nurturing talent for Macau’s broader integrated-resort industry whilst facilitating the city’s economic diversification.

High-quality, Mutual Training

GEG believes that a workplace culture of supportive coaching benefits team members’ development and engagement, stimulates personal growth and creativity, and propagates the company’s unique core values and corporate culture. Over 1,000 team members currently play significant coaching roles in various talent-cultivation programs designed to support all parties through mutual learning and inspiration.

In 2021, GEG conducted one million hours of training for team members – an average of 60 training hours per team member. Understanding that quality training is the basis of nurturing local talent, GEG curated the Galaxy Elite Trainer Program (GET) and the Train the Trainer Program (TTT) for over 200 in-house trainers, supervisors and managers from various departments. GET covers both education theory and practical facilitation techniques, strengthening the skills of full-time professional trainers and developing training solutions to meet GEG’s business needs. TTT is specifically designed for GEG’s dual-role or new trainers. It focuses on the latest training methodologies to provide a well-rounded view of training and effective communications.

Upward and Horizontal Mobility

GEG encourages team members to achieve both vertical and lateral advancement through a variety of training and development programs, such as the Restaurant Manager Development Program, the Casino Management Development Program, and the Facilities Management Upskilling Program, all of which aim to strengthen participants’ professional skills, competencies and competitiveness. Additionally, GEG launched the IR-LEAD Career Diversification Program this year, with the aim of enriching team members’ cross-departmental experience. Meanwhile, the Sifu-Support Scheme and the Buddy-Support Scheme facilitate team members developing together under the guidance of experienced team members and department heads. Furthermore, GEG provided a series of Asian Heart Guest Service Programs, including Asian Heart Ambassador Workshops and Asian Heart Story-Writing Workshops, to enhance team members’ excellence in customer experience – the underpinning of GEG’s Asian Heart service philosophy.

To increase flexibility and diversity in workplace learning, GEG also introduced a multi-platform approach to delivering online learning programs, covering LinkedIn Learning, Udemy and Coursera, among others. Moreover, GEG also developed its own learning platform, called GEGLearn. In 2021, these online programs delivered over 50,000 training hours to bolster team members’ knowledge and skills for continued career growth.

You Lead the Future

Meanwhile, GEG has given full support to the development and cultivation of Macau youth through various initiatives. In support of the second Internship Career Experience Program, organized by the Labor Affairs Bureau of the Macau SAR Government (DSAL), GEG once again launched its U-LEAD Graduate Internship Program, offering university graduates three-month paid internships at GEG’s properties, aiming at providing them valuable working experiences and practical skills in various fields. Upon conclusion of the program, GEG recruited several talented graduates to join the GEG family.

Participant Sharing

Ms. Louisa Cheong from the Transportation Department said, “GET has solidified my training knowledge and skills from all aspects, whilst introducing me to innovative thoughts and theories. Apart from strengthening my training abilities, it also reminded me to lifelong learning. Thanks to the program, I have established an integrated knowledge system to deliver more professional and diversified training courses to other team members.”

Mr. Newman Ao Ieong from the Cage Department shared how he benefited from TTT, “The vast training knowledge, experience and skills offered by the program are the greatest support I have ever received since taking up my role as a new trainer. TTT has not only reshaped my understanding of training and reinforced my communications with trainees, but also propelled my personal and professional improvements.”

Mr. Alex Leong, U-LEAD participant, said, “The Sifu-Support Scheme has played a pivotal role in my internship experience, where my ‘Sifus’ have provided me with enlightening guidance and informative knowledge and spared no effort in sharing their long-accumulated experience. Through the program, I have acquired lifelong professional skills, discovered my interests in facilities management and further identified my employment orientation.”
