The University of Macau’s (UM) Open Day is slated for January 16, the public university said in a statement yesterday.

The statement noted that the Sunday event will include various activities such as “admission consultation, lectures, visits to state key laboratories and family-friendly activities”. The event welcomes local residents, students and parents, as well as tourists, with an opening ceremony to be held at 11 a.m. in the UM Guest House’s Multifunctional Hall.

The open day will run from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. involving “various faculties, residential colleges and laboratories, as well as the university library and Sports Complex” open to visitors.

Consultation booths providing information about academic programmes offered by the different departments will be set up in various locations. The statement also said that students and their parents can visit departments they are interested in to learn more about their programmes and the respective admission process to enable them to prepare for UM’s entrance exam or the city’s joint entrance exam.

Moreover, the event also includes other activities such as experiments, exhibition booths, science talks, and workshops, as well as a “PR Student Ambassador” guided campus tour. An information counter will also be located at the Library Plaza. For a chance to win a “folding UM Bicycle”, visitors can also collect stamps at various locations on campus, the statement added.

Meanwhile, the statement pointed out that on-campus restaurants and shops will be open to the public during the event with various discounts.

To get to the university, one can catch bus Nos 71, 73, or 72, while parking is also available in the university’s public car parks. The statement said that further information can be found on UM’s WeChat account ‘University of Macau’ or on Facebook at ‘University of Macau’.
