Macau Government Tourism Office (MGTO) Director Maria Helena de Senna Fernandes told reporters on Saturday that her bureau expects an average of 40,000 visitors per day during Chinese New Year (CNY) holiday period.
Senna Fernandes made the remarks on the sidelines of a Tour Macau Fun Fair event in Rua dos Ervanários.
According to Senna Fernandes, MGTO is preparing a CNY parade and firework show. She said that as visitors have the tendency to reserve a hotel room at the “last minute”, she still didn’t have a full understanding of the hotel occupancy rate. She stressed that all the events will strictly comply with the Health Bureau (SSM) COVID-19 prevention and control guidelines.
Senna Fernandes also said that due to the COVID-19 cases in nearby regions and cities, in preparation for CNY events, MGTO is striving to expand the use of the contact tracing function of the Macau Health Code mobile app to restaurants and eateries, and various entertainment venues in the city before the Chinese New Year. She stressed that MGTO has already contacted hotels and restaurants to register for a unique QR code for their venue. She added that MGTO will soon have a meeting with the Health Bureau to discuss the nucleic acid test (NAT) requirements for attending the CNY events.
The Chinese New Year of the Tiger begins on February 1.
Meanwhile, Senna Fernandes said that MGTO will be launching a new series of local tours, adding that she hoped to add new attractions and keep the popular routes.
