A local man was arrested last Wednesday for touching a mainland woman’s breasts outside a hotel in Zape earlier that day, Public Security Police (PSP) Wong Wai Chon said at a press conference on Friday.

The 40-year-old suspect surnamed Long told the police that he is a businessman. The victim, in her thirties, is a tourist from the mainland.

According to Wong, a woman reported to the Public Security Police last early Wednesday that a man had touched her breasts at 4 a.m. on that day when she was smoking outside the hotel where she was staying. She told the police that a male stranger approached her. He put his hand on her shoulder, then slid his hand down and touched her breasts. When a friend of the man saw this, he immediately grabbed him and they both went into the hotel. The victim then reported the case to the police.

Wong said that PSP officers arrived at the hotel and scrutinised the CCTV footage. The officers discovered that Long had entered the hotel with a friend after touching the woman’s breasts. The officers later intercepted Long when he was about to leave the hotel with his friend. The duo were taken to a police station for questioning. Long denied committing the crime and he claimed that he was drunk at the time so he could not remember what had happened. Long’s friend told the police that he saw Long approach the woman but he did not see clearly whether he had touched the woman’s breasts or not.

Long has been transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office (MP), facing a sexual harassment charge, according to Wong.
