The Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC) announced in a statement yesterday that the “21st Macao City Fringe Festival” will run until January 23, with an opening ceremony to be hosted tomorrow at 4:30 p.m.
The ceremony will be held in the sitting-out area in Rua Oito do Bairro Iao Hon, with an on-site free game zone from 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Moreover, the statement said that the participatory “Art Exhibition for All” will officially open in the space next to Flower City Park.
This edition of the festival is themed “Margin Break”, offering various programmes for the public to experience “different aspects of art and to promote a bigger artistic interchange in the community”, the statement noted.
The programmes include the “Asian premiere” of the dance Augmented Reality (AR) programme “0AR” in Taipa Central Park, the exhibition “Room that Kid” at Mong-Ha Villas by Kawo Cheang, and Cindy Ng’s multimedia art installation called “Finding Season” in Calçada de S. Francisco Xavier, among others. The statement added that admission is free to the programmes.
Tickets for the festival are available at the Macau Ticketing Network, the 24-hour ticketing hotline on 2855 5555, and online ticketing via www.macauticket.com.
The statement added that the online registration for outreach activities can be made at www.icm.gov.mo/eform/event, while phone registration and enquiries can be done by contacting 8399 6872 during office hours.
Information about the programmes can also be found by visiting www.macaucityfringe.gov.mo or “Macao City Fringe Festival” on Facebook.
The statement emphasised that the bureau will follow the Health Bureau’s (SSM) guidelines, adding that participants must wear a facemask, undergo temperature checks, present a valid Macau Health Code, and maintain social distancing while following crowd control measures.
General Ye Ting’s Former Residence closes for ‘Back Home’
Meanwhile, a separate statement from the bureau yesterday said that General Ye Ting’s Former Residence will be closed for the whole day today, from 5 p.m. on Thursday and Friday, and from 1 p.m. during the weekends to stage the sound theatre “Back Home” for the fringe festival.
According to the statement, Edinburgh Fringe Showcase’s “Back Home” is a “participatory performance” that will take audiences to Wuhan after the COVID-19 pandemic outbreak two years ago to play roles and tell a raft of stories of “returning home and facing the unexpected future”.
The sound theatre will be staged in several time slots from tomorrow to Sunday, with tickets priced at 120 patacas which are available at various ticketing networks.
This undated handout photo provided by IC yesterday shows a postcard for the sound theatre “Back Home”, which will be integrated with the Fringe Festival.
