A calligraphy exhibition entitled “Western Calligraphy Annual Exhibition – ART & POP” (西洋書法年展—流行與藝術) is on display until Friday at the Mount Fortress Corridor gallery.

The exhibition is hosted by the Lettering Artists Association of Macau (LAAOM) (澳門字體藝術家協會) and sponsored by the Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC), according to a LAAOM statement.

The statement pointed out that the exhibition theme is “POP & ART “. LAAOM believes that both “pop” and “traditional” concepts can be applied to artworks by using calligraphy as the medium.

The statement said that 17 Western calligraphy artists from Macau, Hong Kong, the mainland, Vietnam, and South Korea are showcasing over 50 calligraphy artworks. Among the artists are Dao Huy Hoang, Hee Yong Kim, Hiu Siu Kong, Patrick Leung, Leo Zou, Lin Long Zhu, Qiana Liao, Henry Kwok, Oliver Lao, Pansy Chao, and Sara Sa.

LAAOM is Macau’s first association of Western calligraphy which is an exchange platform gathering locally based Western calligraphers and lovers, and it is now actively expanding its network in Asia, according to LAAOM’s website.

The exhibition runs until Friday at the Mount Fortress Corridor which is located in Caminho dos Artilheiros (炮兵馬路) from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Admission is free.

As part of the government’s COVID-19 prevention measures, visitors need to wear a facemask, have their temperature checked and present a digital health code when entering the corridor.
