The first match day of the table tennis competition “WTT Champions Macao 2021 China Stars” starts today at the Tap Seac Multisport Pavilion, where players will compete until Sunday.
According to a statement by the Sports Bureau (ID), a draw ceremony for the competition was held yesterday, which was attended by guests such as the bureau’s president, Pun Weng Kun, and Galaxy Entertainment Group (GEG) Director Philip Cheng Yee Sing, as well as players competing in the four-day event.
The statement noted that the competition brings together “world-leading table tennis players”, such as Olympic champions such as Ma Long, Fan Zhendong, Xu Xin, as well as renowned players including Liang Jingkun, Wang Yidi, and Doo Hoi Kam, among others. Moreover, local player Cheong Chi Cheng will be competing in the men’s singles category.
The three categories for the competition are men’s singles (16 players), women’s singles (16 players) and mixed doubles (16 pairs).
The matches set for today and tomorrow will feature a round of 16 matches in all categories, while the quarterfinals in all the categories will be held on Friday, the statement underlined.
On Saturday, the men’s and women’s singles quarterfinals will take place in addition to the semi-finals and mixed doubles finals. Meanwhile, the semi-finals and finals of the men’s and women’s singles will take place on Sunday, the statement said.
Presented by GEG, the event is organised by the bureau and World Table Tennis (WTT) in conjunction with the Macau Table Tennis General Association. The statement reminded ticket holders that venue admission commences an hour before start of the first match of the day, while online ticket holders can collect their tickets at the ticket counter after presenting their ticket receipt at the kiosk in the lobby of the Tap Seac Multisport Pavilion between 9 a.m. and 10 p.m. throughout the four-day event.
The statement emphasised that the organisers will make arrangements based on guidelines and requirements issued by the Health Bureau (SSM).
